Moose Mountain Mine, Part 2
The mine found new life, and a new parent company, in the 1950s. Under Lowphos Ore Limited the former Moose Mountain site underwent a massive upgrade and became part of M.A. Hanna Mining, a multinational conglomerate which has itself changed name several times since 1885.
Below are just some photos of the construction work that went on north of Capreol. The amount of men and machinery involved is staggering. To those of us born after the mine’s heyday, the sheer size and scope of the operation—not to mention its various truly massive buildings—are unbelievable.
