Expo ’67 Stories Needed!

Calling all people of a certain age! Lisa Coleman-Brown, a member of the Sudbury Writers’ Guild (and pictured below) is doing research for a screenplay she’s writing about a Lions Club sponsored train trip for Grade 6 to Grade 12 schoolchildren from the Sudbury area to visit EXPO 67 for 4-5 days in the early spring of 1967. The cost was $52.00, and the billeting—complete with mess hall breakfasts and box lunches—was at an army barracks in Montreal.

Does anyone know someone, in your family or among your friends, who might have taken part in this field trip? Or, if you grew up in Sudbury, do you have memories of visiting EXPO 67, or ‘Man and His World’ in the summers of the following years, that you would like to share with us? Family photos, slides, or home movies of EXPO 67 would be helpful too.

Any current members of the Lions Club who may have been involved in organizing or running the event or who knows someone who might remember this field trip, please contact www.mycapreol.com for further information. (Either through the comments or via email: fatlouis13@gmail.com ). Lisa would love to have access to the Lion’s archives if that can be arranged.

If you would like to share your memories, or are willing during these Covid-19 times to be interviewed by phone or email contact this website. This could be your chance to see your name in lights in the “special thanks to:” section in the final credits of a Canadian movie!
