Delayed Museum Opening Moves BIG TRUCK MEET UP Online

CoVid-19 has struck close to home. Thankfully it is not causing sickness or death in our community…yet. However, the pandemic’s very real threat has prompted the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre to move its popular opening event, the ‘Big Truck Meet Up’, online. This is both a prudent move and incredibly sad news. Hundreds attend this event every May. It has fast become a fun-filled, truck-tastic tradition for families…many of whom make a day of the motorized spectacle.

Giving our region’s young people a chance to interact with heavy equipment, exposing them to the career opportunities too often ignored in school, is a public service. And there’s no denying the thrill of climbing on a big truck, sitting in its high cab, and tooting the horn. The variety of vehicles on display grows with each season. No doubt this, its fourth, would have been the biggest and best yet.
